Tribute & Message From The Family

CENTRAL CITY – Juarnell Octavia Butler Crumbie, 89, of Central City, died Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at 9:40PM at her home. She was born June 5, 1930, in North Middletown, KY, to the late William H. and Ella Facett Butler.

After graduating from Western High School, Juarnell attended Kentucky State College and received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Home Economics, followed by receiving a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky in August of 1970.

Juarnell became a Home Economics teacher for Central City High School from August of 1967 until 1985 when she retired. During her teaching career, she really loved and counseled her students as well as teaching them not only about Home Economics but about life as well. She was a teacher and mother to all her students. Juarnell was what you called an "old school" teacher. She treated her students like they were her own. Mrs. Crumbie was a blessing to a lot of people's lives during her lifetime.

Juarnell accepted Christ at an early age at First Christian Church in Paris, KY. She became a Watchcare member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Central City, KY. She loved her pastor and her church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sebree N. Crumbie and beloved granddaughter Kendra Danielle Talbott.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Connie (James) Talbott of Central City; a son, Jon (Michelle) Crumbie of Louisville; three grandchildren, Deidre Kaniel Talbott, Braxton Thair Samuel Crumbie, and Langston Nevaro Drexler Crumbie; two great-grandchildren Marcus James Lamont Dixon and Mackenna Danielle Thompson; brother James (Grace) Thompson of Lexington; sister-in-law Frances Thompson of Lexington; brother-in-law Sam (Anna Pearl) Crumbie of Paris, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Juarnell was loved by all she touched.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 11:00AM at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Central City, with Rev. Otis Cunningham officiating. Burial in West End Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday after 9:30AM at the church. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was my most favorite teacher! Above any other in high school And college! She was funny, loving and caring. She really tried to teach us about life, not just textbook stuff. I haven't seen her in years, but I will always remember her with love!

The absolute best person ever! The CCHS Class of 1979 absolutely loved her, I loved her, and my Mom, Janette Tinsley, especially loved Ms. Crumbie. I still remember her infectious laugh and the way she would close her eyes when she would scold you. God broke the mold when he made Crumbie! Prayers for Connie and Jon. I know she and your Dad are having a great time together in Heaven!

To The Crumbie Family May GOD wrap His everloving arms around each of you; comfort and sustain all of your needs. Wait on the LORD be of good courage and HE shall strengthen thine heart. Wait I say on the LORD. Psalms 27 verse 13.

I could write a book about the good times that Juarnell, or as I called her, Crumb, and I had on all of the trips that we had together. We went to so many home economics meetings together. I love her dearly and am so sad about her death. I'm sure that she is in heaven telling her funnies and making everyone laugh. May God bless and grant peace to her loved ones.

Mrs. Crumbie made a difference in my life. I was her student 1969. She made a lasting impression on me of kindness, guidance, and tolerance. I took many problems to her and was always given a gentle guidance to change the thinks I could and give to God the things I couldn't. I kept in touch with her over the years but regretfully not enough. Sincere sympathy to her family. She will be missed by so many.

When I think of high school most of my memories are of things that happened in her class. She always had an open door for extra help, advice or just to talk about your day. Mrs. Crumbie was a legend, and always will be.
